XLIF for transitional syndrome above previous fusion with cage and interspinous plate
XLIF with posterior interspinous plate AFFIX
This elderly woman had previous fusion at L3 L4 with pedicle fixation. She then developed severe transitional stenosis at L2 L3. Rather than subjecting her to more conventional surgery of L2 L3 decompression and fusion with pedicle fixation with bone grafting she underwent XLIF at L2 L3 with a Nuvasive Cage and Osteocel and posterior fusion with AFFIX interspinous plate with local bone graft and Osteocel. Osteocel is osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and osteogenic product from Nuvasive.
The surgery took about 2 hours with about 100 cc blood loss. Compare that to the more conventional surgery.
